The Story

Our team started this foundation knowing firsthand what our participants go through

Founded by Marshall Spring, a combat-disabled Marine Corps veteran, our commitment to our mission of providiing effective and evidence-based suicide prevention runs deep. Our services are not just effective; they are lifelines in the battle against veteran suicide.

We firmly believe that those who courageously risk their lives for their community embody the highest compassion. Yet, these brave souls sometimes suffer deep wounds while ensuring our safety. Our mission is driven by a profound dedication to helping these heroes heal their unseen scars, reclaim their lives, and rediscover a sense of belonging once more in society.

Marshall Spring

Marshall is a Marine Corps Combat veteran, Purple Heart recipient, retired police officer, and has been advocating for suicide prevention throughout his entire career. Marshall, having endured his own struggles with mental health after serving on the front lines, understands the urgency of his mission. Marshall established the Combat Recovery Foundation in YEAR to directly impact his brothers and sisters in arms experiencing their own mental health challenges. Leveraging his professional and lived experience, Marshall and his team fight in the war against suicide.

Carly

Carly is a Occupational Health and Safety researcher and devoted mental health advocate. While a medical procedure prevented her from joining the military, she turned to serving the armed forces by teaching suicide prevention courses to Air Force ROTC cadets and DOD employees. She further serves her community by creating and administering mental health crisis intervention programs for middle and high school students throughout Northern Colorado. She hopes to continue educating those around her about suicide prevention with the Combat Recovery Foundation.

Alana Bethune

Alana is a third-generation Navy veteran and a Military and Veteran Housing Certified REALTOR® with a strong commitment to service and community. With a rich family history in the military, Alana has dedicated her life to supporting fellow veterans. With Combat Recovery Foundation, she strives to foster an environment where veterans can come together and experience a safe space to share experiences, grow together, and work towards a peaceful and abundant lifestyle. She has helped advance the education of real estate professionals to better advocate for veterans looking to become homeowners, and writes for a veteran magazine to share stories that inspire, provide insights, and advocate for veterans' issues.  Combining Alana's passion for connection and growth with a deep sense of duty, she endeavors to make a lasting impact on the lives of those who have served. A lifelong Coloradan, Alana enjoys spending time outdoors, tending to and arranging flowers, golfing, camping, and lounging on patios at local craft breweries.

Bon Barbour

Bob Barbour, a proud Colorado native, served in the United States Navy as a Seabee from 2011 to 2016, with deployments to Afghanistan, Djibouti, Okinawa Japan, and Somalia. Post-military, Bob pursued his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. Overcoming substance struggles, he's now six years sober, dedicated to personal growth, and inspires others to reach their potential. Finding solace in the gym, he champions the connection between physical and mental strength. Bob ardently advocates for veterans supporting one another, believing that respect, communication, and understanding form the foundation of a robust community.

Bryce Ballew

Bryce is a versatile professional with extensive experience in construction, entrepreneurship, and team leadership. He founded CleanTech Engineering in 2020, focusing on building performance and energy efficiency, and previously established Tradecraft Industries LLC, a co-working space for the construction industry, in 2017. His career spans roles as a licensed Class 'B' General Contractor, project manager at Jordy Construction, and project superintendent in California. Bryce's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in Construction Management from Colorado State University. His expertise lies in managing complex projects under tight constraints, creative problem-solving, and balancing practical industry knowledge with big-picture thinking. Beyond his professional endeavors, Bryce serves on the board of Combat Recovery Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting veterans and suicide prevention.

Rollin Goering

Rollin is a U.S. Navy veteran (ABH3) with a passion for survival and the great outdoors. He's a certified Nature Connected Coach and an enthusiastic wilderness survival advocate, actively involved with "The Wild Ed Network." Rollin also contributes to the Larimer County Food Bank's Board of Directors and has dedicated six years to the Loveland Chamber of Commerce, serving as chair in 2018. With over two decades of real estate experience, he currently excels as a residential Realtor at Remax Alliance - FTC South.

Dr. Charles Drebring

Charles E. Drebing, Ph.D. is the Chief of Mental Health at the Cheyenne VA Healthcare System and the past Chief of Mental Health at the Bedford VA. He is also an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Boston University School of Medicine. He has served as a researcher, clinician and administrator within the Veterans Administration for the past 30 years. His research and program development interests include psychosocial rehabilitation interventions, peer and social support interventions, and work and education rehabilitation.

Ben Patton

Benjamin Patton, descendant of a distinguished military lineage including General George S. Patton, Jr., is the founder and Executive Director of the Patton Veterans Project (PVP). This non-profit organization uses filmmaking to help veterans cope with posttraumatic stress (PTS) and build community. Since 2011, PVP has conducted over 75 film workshops, assisting nearly 1400 veterans in creating more than 300 short films about their service-related challenges. Patton's background includes nearly two decades in television and music production in New York City, as well as running Patton Productions, which created private video biographies of veterans and military families. He authored "Growing Up Patton," a memoir about his father, and has been featured in various media outlets. Patton holds degrees from Georgetown University and Columbia University-Teachers College, and was recently awarded the Meritorious Public Service Medal by the United States Army. He balances his time between Manhattan and Garrison, NY, with his wife and two young sons.
